Jim Hanvey, Detective Reviews

A limp detective yarn with Kibbee as an ace detective called in by an insurance company after the theft of an emerald. The gem is supposed to have been stolen from Kaye, the daughter of a wealthy man. It is soon revealed that the theft is a ruse by Kaye's boy friend, Brown, a budding novelist researching material for a book he wants to write. Problems start when the emerald is stolen for real. Working on the case, Kibbee discovers the crook is an insurance company official. During the 1930s and 1940s, The Saturday Evening Post, with its Norman Rockwell covers and its down-home flavor, was among America's favorite reading matter. Actor Kibbee tended to gravitate toward films made from the magazine's series stories, such as this one, EARTHWORM TRACTORS (1936), and SCATTERGOOD BAINES (1941).
