Jam Session Reviews

The facile plot in this one is just an excuse to allow some swing bands a chance to play. Miller stars as a country girl who comes out on top in a dance contest and wins a round-trip ticket to Hollywood. She goes there seeking fame and fortune and finds herself in love with screenwriter Barker. After rolling through a number of swing tunes, Miller nearly destroys Barker's career through the usual set of contrived misunderstandings; but it really doesn't matter because it's the music that counts. Songs include: "Cherokee" (Ray Noble), "I Can't Give You Anything but Love" (Dorothy Fields, Jimmy McHugh), "Murder He Says" (Frank Loesser, McHugh), "I Lost My Sugar in Salt Lake City" (Leon Rene, Johnny Lange), "Brazil" (S.K. Russell, Ary Barroso), "It Started All Over Again" (Bill Carey, Carl Fisher), "Victory Polka" (Sammy Cahn, Jule Styne), "No Name Jive" (Glen Gray).
