Hard Country Reviews

Overshadowed by the similarly themed URBAN COWBOY (1980), this surprisingly involving drama finds Jan-Michael Vincent in the role of Texan Kyle Richardson, a small-town boy who works in a factory by day and hangs out at saloon with his friends at night. His girl friend, Jodie Lynn Palmer (Kim Basinger, at the beginning of her film career), is torn between settling down with Kyle and heading for California. Her friend, Caroline (real-life country & western singer Tanya Tucker), who has done the latter and become a recording star, tries to persuade Jodie Lynn to make the big move and leave town. Intelligently written and presented, HARD COUNTRY is well worth seeing.
