Artist Cartaret (Herbert Heyes) receives a letter telling him his adopted ward, a young French girl, will soon return home from France in this confusing drama. Cartaret anxiously waits for Celestine (Shirley Mason), who has been orphaned during World War I. The truth is, he is in love with Celestine, and since this idea may be a bit scandalous to his friends, Cartaret must come up with a scheme to conceal her real identity. He manufactures a story that his adopted daughter has run off to marry a Royal Air Force lieutenant and the girl here now is his daughter's cousin. When his plan seems to work, the artist and the young woman are free to pursue their romantic yearnings for each other.
