Body Rock Reviews

Another in the spate of break-dance movies that were released around 1984. BODY ROCK stars Lamas ("Falcon Crest") as one of a group of rappers, dancers, and graffiti artists, who (after some dancing pointers from Smith) becomes so good that he is persuaded by entrepreneur Sharkey to quit the group and work solo at Sharkey's disco. Success goes to Lamas' head for a while, causing him to abandon his girlfriend and his mother, but he finds his roots again in the end. Even the visuals of cinematographer extraordinaire Muller don't raise BODY ROCK above its tepid level. For a more energetic and authentically scored treatment of the mid-80s hip-hop scene, see BEAT STREET.
