Another Chance Reviews

A dark, gripping tale of the black-market baby trade set in a London boarding house. Jackson is the landlady who pretends to be righteous, but really is the wicked cornerstone of the illegal operation. Ray, the pregnant mistress of a condemned killer, checks into the boarding house in an attempt to avoid harmful publicity. She soon receives the usual horrendous treatment by Jackson but fails to make public her abuse. The young mother-to-be is befriended by Maxwell, a boarder who loses her baby when Jackson refuses to phone a doctor. When the landlady's evil ways can no longer be ignored, a fellow worker, Hope, informs the police. Before they arrive, however, Ray is pushed down a flight of stairs by Jackson and left to die. The police finally arrive and Jackson receives her just punishment. An uncharacteristically brutal drama for the time, earning it Britain's first "X" rating.
