David Lynch's Twin Peaks spans only two seasons, but has left a lasting impression because of its abundance of crazy, unexplained and downright strange moments. Here some of the weirdest moments from the original series (with lots of spoilers!).

The little man's jazz dance

The little man appears to Agent Cooper a few times, the first time in a dream. He speaks in reverse and says that Laura is full of secrets. Then he dances by himself (a clue repeated throughout the series).

Leland's hair turns white

After murdering Jacques Renault, Leland wakes up with white hair. He then goes on a manic rant singing the jazz song "Mairzy Doats," getting faster with each verse.

After Agent Cooper is shot, a giant comes to him with clues

While Agent Cooper is on the floor bleeding from being shot, a giant appears with three very important pieces of information. The giant says that he's a friend, to look for a man smiling in a bag and that owls aren't what they seem. He then exclaims "without chemicals" while gazing into the distance.

Agent Cooper gets clues from a rock

One of Agent Cooper's first investigative techniques is whispering the names of his possible murder suspects at a rock and then throwing the rock at a bottle and seeing which one hits.

Agent Cooper dreams about kissing Laura

In an extremely unsettling dream, he appears as an old man who lets Laura kiss him.

A bird knows Laura Palmer's final words

Waldo, a bird highly proficient in mimicry, is brought into the station because he has clues about Laura's death. But before the police can hear the whole thing, Waldo is shot. And his blood destroys a box of donuts. Double disappointment.

Bob's first appearance

Everything about Bob, the evil spirit entity who feeds off human pain and suffering, is weird. He hops from host to host, has a terrifying laugh and - oh yeah, he's a murderer. He is one of the strangest things about Twin Peaks, and the first time we see him sets the weird tone. Among the mourning after Laura's funeral, we see him crouching by Laura's mother's bed. Creepy.

Laura's look-a-like cousin arrives in town

A few weeks after Laura's death, her cousin Maddy shows up. She looks just like Laura (both are played by actress Sheryl Lee), but their likeness isn't acknowledged until the series finale when the little man points out they're doppelgangers.

Bob leaves letters under his victims' fingernails

Each letter is from the name of another victim Bob has murdered.

A barbershop quartet sings at breakfast

This barbershop quartet just casually sings at the lodge at breakfast. Agent Cooper never acknowledges it. This is just one of many unexplained and super noisy moments at the Great Northern Hotel.

Ronette's vision of Laura's murder

A fiery vision of Laura's assault and murder wakes Ronette from her coma. It's one of the series' creepiest moments.

Margaret talks to the afterlife through her log

Though most of the town perceives Margaret as a crazy lady who talks to a tree stump, she's vindicated when people start to believe the log holds many spirits.

The entrance to an evil dimension is in the woods

The Black Lodge, the evil spirit dimension where Bob is from, is easily accessed through a portal in the woods of Twin Peaks.

Stacks of donuts are left out at the police station

Agent Cooper says the constant stacks of donuts are a cop's dream, but no one ever says they're weird (even though they are).

Agent Cooper hangs out upside down

He records a message to his partner Diane that says, "Diane, I am upside down." He also attempts to do a headstand on his bed.

Bob takes the form of an owl

Between taking up space in human hosts, Bob traverses the earth as an owl.

Mrs. Tremond's grandson holds creamed corn in his hands

Creamed corn is the physical manifestation of garmonbozia, or human pain and suffering, throughout the series.

Nadine goes back to high school

After her head trauma, Nadine wakes up as a teenager with superhuman strength. In a multiple episode arc, she wins over the most popular boy in school by beating him at wrestling. Her husband is much too understanding.

Deputy Andy imagines a little boy as the devil

Deputy Andy believes that a young boy named Nicky killed his parents. He imagines the boy as a devil surrounded by fire.

Bob inhabits Agent Cooper

Agent Cooper smashes his head into the mirror and reveals he's given his soul to Bob.

Ben Horne enlists Audrey for a Civil War reenactment

Ben Horne's obsession with the Civil War starts off with figurines placed in his office and transforms into a full blown reenactment where he stars as General Lee.

A white horse appears to Sarah Palmer

A white horse appears to Sarah Palmer right before Maddy's death.

Cooper finds a mask in his bed

We never learn who left it there or why.

Gersten gives a piano performance at dinner

Though objectively not that weird, Donna's sister's piano performance stands out as a moment of stark normalcy next to the series' long list of bizarre events.

Audrey gets a job at a brothel

Wanting to help with Laura's murder investigation, which is already weird since they weren't friends, high school student Audrey gets a job at a local brothel. Things get extra weird when her dad comes in as a client, and she has to put on a mask and feign disinterest in order to avoid having sex with him. It's a close call.

A student dances alone in the school hallway

Completely unaware of the death of their best friend, James and Donna have a happy conversation in the school hallway. Completely unbeknownst to them, a random student breaks into dance behind them in the hall. He's never seen again.

"Coop, where is Josie?"

Bob screams at Agent Cooper, "Coop, where is Josie?" as Andy cradles her dead body. The camera pans to a drawer handle and shows Josie stuck in the handle.

Coffee is solid in the Black Lodge

Lots of things are upsetting to Agent Cooper in the Black Lodge, but he's bewildered by the undrinkable coffee which starts solid then suddenly turns to syrup.

There's a fish in the percolator

Josie puts a trout in the percolator, ruining the boys' morning coffee.

Donna finds a letter from Laura

The letter details a dream Laura had where she kisses an old man. It's revealed to be the same dream Agent Cooper had. He is the old man.

Twin Peaks returns 26 years later

Though Laura Palmer tells Agent Cooper he'll see her again in 25 years, it actually took Twin Peaks 26 years to make it back for it's highly anticipated third season.
