U.S. travelers describe the hospitality they received from Canadians when their homebound flights on Sept. 11 were diverted to Canadian airports. All told, some 33,000 passengers landed in Canada---and most were "anxious and discomfitted," as narrator Gordon Pinsent puts it, when they did. Over the next four days (until U.S. airspace was reopened), Canadian hosts on both coasts opened their hearts and homes to the Americans. Says a New Yorker: "I made 90 new friends."
