Times are tough and getting tougher for single mom Polly Green-Tatham (Sarah Chalke), who sees little recourse but to move in with her mother Elaine (Elizabeth Perkins) and stepfather Max (Brad Garrett) after splitting from her husband Julian (Jon Dore). The sitcom, which mines humor from the real-life trend that began after the 2008 economic collapse of grown children returning to the nest, follows Polly as she rebuilds her life while also dealing with her folks, raising her daughter Natalie (Rachel Eggleston) and coping with her ex. During the season, she re-enters the dating scene; takes on a second job; plays matchmaker for Julian; and, following a fight with Elaine and Max, moves into Julian's apartment while he's staying with a girlfriend.
