Walter Cronkite narrates this profile of Houston financier Jesse H. Jones (1874-1956), who ran FDR's Reconstruction Finance Corporation and was called "the fourth branch of government" because of the power he wielded in the post. (Jones served simultaneously as Secretary of Commerce during FDR's third term.) "As much as any single figure, Jesse Jones saved the American economy during the depths of the Depression," says journalist Marguerite Johnston. The hour also reviews Jones' business career.
