WE tv Orders a Demon-Hunting Horror Series From Hostel's Eli Roth

Horror is hot! Even WE tv, the home of Pregnant & Dating and Bridezillas, is tapping into the genre. The cable network has ordered a new scary series from horror maven Eli Roth (Hemlock Grove, Hostel, Cabin Fever).

South of Hell follows Maria Abascal, a "stunning, 30-year-old demon-hunter-for-hire" who exorcises baddies from others alongside her demon-hunting brother in Savannah, Ga. But Maria isn't immune to demons herself, and is inhabited by a demon named Abigail who feeds off the evil Maria plucks out of others.

"As WE tv moves firmly into scripted programming, we are committed to presenting distinctive and engaging stories to today's savvy TV audience," WE tv president Marc Juris said in a statement. "That is certainly the case with South of Hell, a dramatic thriller that introduces viewers to an unforgettable character, supernatural themes, and the battle between good and evil."

WE tv has ordered eight hourlong episodes with a targeted premiere of 2015. James Manos, Jr. (Dexter) will serve as executive producer and showrunner. Roth will also executive produce and direct the first episode.

WE tv is prepping its first scripted drama The Divide, which is scheduled to premiere Wednesday, July 16 at 9/8c.
