The chart-topping, star-making talent contest returns for its 10th cycle with Part 1 of the two-part season premiere. The off-season has been a game of musical chairs for the judges: Kara DioGuardi, Ellen DeGeneres and sharp-tongued vet Simon Cowell are out and new judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are in, joining sole returnee Randy Jackson. In another development, music impresario Jimmy Iovine serves as the new in-house mentor. We kick off tonight with the oft-colorful preliminary auditions, which are set in New York and New Jersey. Other audition destinations this season include Austin, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Nashville, New Orleans and San Francisco. — Dean Maurer

Modern Family9/8c ABC A 16th wedding anniversary may not carry the cachet of the silver 25th or golden 50th (for the record, the modern gift is hollowware), but it's one the Dunphys will never forget — especially when the kids surprise their folks with breakfast in bed, and in flagrante delicto wasn't on the menu. Meanwhile, Mitchell and Cameron were the hot demographic for getting Lily into preschool, but their connection to a fellow parent (Rachael Harris) may not be enough to get a table at her hip new restaurant. — Joe FriedrichBlue Bloods10/9c CBS The hit crime drama moves to Wednesdays for four consecutive weeks beginning tonight. It returns to its regular Friday slot on Feb. 11. The Defenders, which normally airs in this time period, relocates to Fridays starting Feb. 4. As for tonight's cases, Danny and Jackie investigate when a high-end escort is found floating in a river, and Frank vows to bring a killer to justice when a missing boy's remains are found 25 years after he went missing. — Tim Holland

Hot in Cleveland

10/9c TV Land Surprise hit Cleveland was scorching in Season 1, thanks to the chemistry between Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and Betty White, but some credit goes to its revolving cast of guest stars. Well, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? Mary Tyler Moore highlights tonight's Season 2 opener as a cellmate of White's Elka, and the sophomore slate also is slated to include Susan Lucci, Jack Wagner and Melanie Griffith, and a Jan. 26 reunion for Bertinelli with her One Day at a Time mom, Bonnie Franklin. — Joe FriedrichTop Chef: All-Stars10/9c Bravo The chefs rocked the boat last week when they cooked a fish dish for a summer's end party. The net result: Jamie and Tiffani got the hook in a double elimination. It's a good catch this week when the contestants try to reel in a win with yet another fish-theme test, this time overseen by judge Anthony Bourdain. Following this Quickfire challenge, the chefs participate in a unique Restaurant Wars contest, which tasks them to establish "one night only" eateries under the stars in New York City. — Dean Maurer

Retired at 3510:30/9:30c TV Land In the real world, with a down economy, thirtysomethings moving back home might not be all that funny. But when it's on TV LAND, it's OK to laugh — especially if the parents are as amusing as George Segal and Jessica Walter. Johnathan McClain costars as David, who leaves his New York job and moves in with his folks, Alan (Segal) and Elaine (Walter), in Florida. But in the premiere, any ideas of a happy family reunion are dashed when Elaine decides she'd rather paint nudes than stay married. — Joe Friedrich
PGA Golf3/2c GolfThe 52nd Bob Hope Classic opens on four Palm Springs-area courses, including the Nicklaus and Palmer courses at PGA West, SilverRock Resort and La Quinta Country Club. Bill Haas won last year's event by a stroke over Matt Kuchar, Tim Clark and Bubba Watson.
