Episode Recap: Chicago Reunion

The reunion specials are always a bit of a smorgasbord of amusing memories, insight and gossip. Here are some tidbits worth tasting. Fan Favorite: Stephanie not only was the first female Top Chef but also the first to win both titles. Way to go, girlfriend!Bromance was all around: Ted called Spike and Mark in the bubble bath "man soup." Richard had fun watching Dale... read full recap

  • Most Over-used Reality Saying | Today's Top Videos | 7/8/2008
If there's one thing we've heard time and time again at in reality shows from participants, it's the sentence, "I'm not here to make friends." But what we never realized is how many times it's actually said. Put it this way, between Apprentice, Top Model, Top Chef, Survivor and every other reality competition show to date, it was said enough times to make a three minute video. Enjoy! read more
  • Top Chef Reunion | The TVGuide.com Interns' Blog | 6/19/2008
Season 4 of Top Chef may be over, but there is always the reunion episode to look forward to. This reunion episode had the usual recap of different fights and bloopers, yet there were definitely some clips that we didn’t see before. Let’s start with this season’s “bromance”. First we have Spike and Mark, who take bubble baths together and drink champagne in order to wind down…whatever makes you feel relaxed I guess! Spike was a two timer and went back and forth between Mark and Andrew. Andrew’s energy is definitely hard to match, and I got the vibe that Spike was a little “closer” to Andrew than Mark. Lastly we have the most unlikely pair, Richard and Dale. Richard went as far as complimenting Dale’s nipples! If that doesn’t say bromance I don’t know what does. Richard and Dale definitely have my vote for best couple. I also liked the clips shown from the steam room. Some of the highlights were Mark as the “Glad... read more
  • Top Chef Finale | The TVGuide.com Interns' Blog | 6/12/2008
Last night’s Top Chef finale allowed the contestants to create a four course meal that showcases their cooking abilities. Three renowned chefs were brought in to be chosen as sous chefs for the finalists. Stephanie got first pick and chose Eric Ripert, Richard was second and chose Dan Barber, and lastly Lisa was paired with April Bloomfield by default. Richard’s menu went with a theme of taking a “journey” based on his own experiences. As usual, Lisa used Asian flavors in her dishes. Stephanie’s menu didn’t have a definite theme, yet she seemed to experiment the most out of her comfort zone. As expected, host Tom Colicchio met with the chefs on Day 2 and introduced a little twist; their sous chefs would no longer be assisting them. The chefs predicted this setback and managed to complete their four course meals in time for serving. Lisa’s prawns with extra spicy sauce and homemade potato chips put her neck in neck with Stephanie’s red snapper... read more
  • Don't You Hate Product Placement on TV? | Today's News: Our Take | 6/12/2008
So does the U.K.'s media minister, who has made the shocking announcement that he is banning all product placement on British TV shows, according to Variety.Despite the practice having already been approved by the European Union, Andy Burnham, the secretary of state at the Department of Culture, Media, and Sport, said that he won't allow it to "contaminate" the favorable international reputation of British programming. "There is a risk that, at the very moment when television needs to do all it can to show it can be trusted, that we elide the distinction between programs and adverts," he said.I understand the chap's point; it's definitely a slippery slope. I am an avid TiVo user who is delirious with glee at the prospect of getting through an ep of Grey's Anatomy in 40-odd minutes. (Sidenote: Has anyone noticed there are "un-skippable" commercials now? Benjamin Moore Paints, I curse thee!) Plus, most product placement on TV is so obvious and bombastic, it takes me out of the moment... read more
