This Is Us Could End With Season 6

There is an end in sight for This Is Us, and showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger have finally alluded to when that could be. The executive producers teased in an interview with Deadline that they are planning "about three seasons in the future" for the show's big finale.

This shouldn't be too surprising for fans, as This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman has said many times that the show has already filmed parts of the series' final sequence. Susan Kelechi Watson revealed that this season's "her" mystery will also play a big part in the end of the show. You don't have that clear vision of how the show will end without having a good idea of when.

"I would hope that [the finale] is elegant," Aptaker told Deadline. "That's what we're going for. I would hope that when we reach our ending, people think it's a really satisfying end place, that makes sense, and it feels like they've watched something that is a complete piece of work because that's really how we're trying to plan it. Almost like you would a book, or a super-long movie. We've had this end in mind for a long time, so we're able to plan for it, and try to make it feel like it's a whole, as opposed to a series that's going to go endlessly."

Of course, the showrunners saying the show "could" end at Season 6 is not definitive. Fogelman is the man with the ultimate vision, and This Is Us is still the No. 1 rated broadcast show for adults 18-49, which means that NBC is in no rush to see the Pearsons go anywhere. That being said, three seasons 0f 18 episodes each is a lot of road for the creative team to wrap up the storylines of this family that America has grown to love.

NBC and Fox Studios had not responded to TV Guide's request for comment at the time of publishing this story.
