Nathan Fillion is back on ABC in a brand new series called The Rookie.

The Castle star is teaming up once again with Castle executive producer Alexi Hawley for this dramedy about the oldest rookie in the LAPD. "At an age where most are at the peak of their career, John Nolan cast aside his comfortable, small-town life and moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of being a cop," reads the official show description. "Now, surrounded by rookies 20 years his junior, he must navigate the dangerous, humorous and unpredictable world of a 'young' cop, determined to make his second shot at life count."

Sounds fun, right? That's just the basics, though. Here's everything you need to know about this new cop comedy.

It will air on Tuesdays: ABC put The Rookie in a critical slot, showing that the network has faith in it. It will air after ABC's Tuesday night comedy block at 10/9c following the new series Splitting Up Together. While Roseanne will get the evening started off right for ABC, it will rely on The Rookie to finish the evening strong.

The trailer: The first teaser for The Rookie was released on May 9, and showed that the series won't be all laughs and gaffs. In fact, The Rookie looked like it was going to require a lot of emotional heavy lifting from the cast as Fillion has to prove to his younger cop counterparts that he belongs on the squad.

The full-length trailer shed a bit more light on that journey and proved that Fillion is still going to make us laugh with his antics in the new drama, though. He'll also have tense moments with his sergeant who hates the fact that John is joining the squad at such a late age. Check the full length trailer above.

The cast: Fillion 's fellow cops include Afton Williamson as Talia Bishop, Eric Winter as Tim Bradford, Melissa O'Neil as Lucy, Richard T. Jones as Sergeant Wade Grey, Titus Makin as Jackson West, Alyssa Diaz as Angela, and Mercedes Masohn as Captain Zoe Andersen.

It's based on a true story: Can you imagine a complete career change at age 40? Well that's what happened in the true story of the LAPD cop who inspired The Rookie as a TV show.

The Rookie premieres this fall on ABC.
