Two deaths and an engagement sounds like the title to a seriously messed up Shakespeare play, but it's actually just what went down in the latest episode of The Originals.
Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) finally clashed over Hayley's (Phoebe Tonkin) death, while the vampires and the werewolves clashed over rights to the city. It was bloody to say the least, but it's not all bad news — we finally got a Freelin engagement out of it!
The nightwalkers who followed the "vampire purity" agenda tried to force the werewolves out of the city, but when wrecking the wolves' Mardis Gras float didn't work, they compelled a human to walk a bomb into their festivities, which ended up killing Lisina (Alexis Louder). That... escalated quickly.
Every character took her death differently, some good and some bad. Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) decided to lead the Mardis Gras march in honor of Lisina's death, knowing full well that the vampires would strike again. Freya (Riley Voelkel) decided that she didn't want to wait any longer to propose to Keelin (Christina Moses), who obviously said yes because LOVE WINS! We're definitely getting a Freelin wedding before the season is out, so start picking out china patterns, folks!
Unfortunately for Vincent, choosing to side against the vampires ended up killing Ivy (Shiva Kalaiselvan) and several other witches thanks to the poison the vamps had put in their wine as they toasted to peace. Poor Ivy, we barely knew her.
Meanwhile, after struggling under the weight of all the dark magic currently inside her, Hope finally snapped and attempted to solve the problem herself. Unfortunately, the spell she required her to cross paths with Elijah, whom she still blamed for her mother's death.
Elijah had taken up residence in Declan's (Torrance Coombs) bar, hoping to glean a little bit of what Hayley's life had been like in his absence. Hope was less than enthused to find Elijah swapping stories with her pseudo-father figure, and the combination of her grief and her magic turned the bar into a battleground.
In the midst of her magical assault on Elijah, Declan saw what she could do, opening his eyes to the hidden supernatural community in New Orleans for the first time. Elijah managed to compel the memories away from him, but we're doubtful that will actually stick. Hopefully this ends better than it did for his cousin, or Declan could meet the same kind of untimely end as Cami (Leah Pipes).
Hope's dark magic issues are still a problem, however, and not even Klaus (Joseph Morgan) knows how to go about fixing it. It's not like Hope can just go around slashing the crap out of everyone whenever her rage builds up, right? Then again, it's worked pretty well for Klaus the last 1000 years... Like father, like daughter, you know?
