Supernatural's Jeffrey Dean Morgan Is Game to Return as John Winchester

Papa Winchester might ride again!

Supernaturalfans have been treated to several heroic returns from dead characters over the course of The CW drama's 14 seasons, but there's one that has remained forever elusive: Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam's (Jared Padalecki) father, John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

In the Season 2 finale, we saw the ghost of Papa Winchester escape from hell to help kill the demon Azazel, whom he'd spent his whole life hunting down to avenge his wife's death. After that, it seemed like his spirit was finally at peace. Although we've gotten callbacks to him in the years since and even seen younger versions of him, we've never seen Jeffrey Dean Morgan as John Winchester in the flesh (so to speak). It's not exactly a surprise considering Morgan has had a successful career post-Supernatural, so nailing him down for a cameo would have been a pretty tall order.

Now though, it sounds like Morgan might be up for a return to Supernatural!

During a Q&A on Twitter on Monday, Morgan was asked whether he'd consider playing Papa Winchester again if the opportunity arose, to which the actor replied, "Sure. If story was right."

It's not a exactly an enthusiastic call to action for the minds behind Supernatural to pick up the phone and call him, but it's not a no! Considering Supernatural is gearing up for its 300th episode (side note: holy cow), the right story might be just around the corner!

Supernatural airs Thursdays at 8/7c on The CW.
