The set of The Mandalorian, the new live-action Star Wars TV series, received a very important visitor this week as George Lucas descended from his galaxy far, far away to check out the show's progress. Showrunner Jon Favreau shared a couple of snaps with Lucas from set on Friday, writing that his visit was a "birthday surprise."

Not many details about the show can be discerned from the pictures themselves (below) -- except, is that a new cantina we see? -- but it is exciting to see the series get the authoritative stamp of approval from Lucas nonetheless.

The forthcomingStar Warsseries, expected to debut on Disney's new streaming service, centers on a lone gunman who lives well outside of the authority of the New Republic, in between the fall of the Empire and before the First Order rises.

Disney previously announced its slate of A-list directors for the new series, and they include Bryce Dallas Howard, Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones) and Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars). Filoni can be seen photographed alongside Favreau and Lucas in one of the new shots.

While Disney's new streaming service is expected to launch sometime in 2019, no premiere date has been announced for The Mandalorian.
