Turns out, Bruce Springsteen was not born to run for office. Despite the efforts of political consultant Doug Friedline to get the Boss elected as New Jersey's next U.S. senator, Springsteen says he has no desire to enter the political fray. Paraphrasing Civil War Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman's classic rebuff at the 1884 GOP convention, he cracked: "If nominated, I will not run. If elected, I will not serve."
