Wednesday night was a bittersweet one for Riverdalefans. The CW aired the first episode of the teen drama since the death of series regular Luke Perry on Monday. The actor passed away from complications following a massive stroke, and while production on the final episodes of the season halted in light of the tragedy, The CW is continuing to air the episodes as planned.

Perry, who played Archie's (KJ Apa) father, Fred Andrews, on the series, didn't appear on screen until the end of the episode, showing up just in the nick of time to save Archie from a homicidal tween who turned out to be Joaquin's (Rob Raco) younger brother. The episode also closed with an in memoriam message.

Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa posted on Instagram Wednesday morning that the episode, and all subsequent episodes for the rest of the series' run, will be dedicated to Perry.

"Going through pictures on my way to set. From the early days. With Luke in the middle. Our heart, always. Tonight's episode of #Riverdale finds Fred doing what he does best--helping Archie. It is dedicated to Luke, as all episodes will be for the rest of our run," the producer wrote.

Riverdale airs Wednesdays at 8/7 on The CW.
