The Perfectionists Has Finally Reached Pretty Little Liars-Level Crazy

And we're here for it

Andrea Reiher

It's finally here. The Perfectionists has finally stepped its game up to the level of its predecessor, and it is awesome. A hit-and-run. Deranged parents. Fake deaths. And now a pig-man in the sewer! We have reached Pretty Little Liars crazy status and there are still four episodes left in the season. Woo hoo.

The Suspects

The episode picked up directly after Caitlin's (Sydney Park) car accident. She is obviously going to be fine, and it did have one bright spot -- the trio cemented themselves as a group. Plus, we got to meet Caitlin's senator mom, who was just as intense as you'd expect. "Honey, it sucks that you were in a car accident, so try to push yourself to be back running track in six weeks," was basically the message here. Also, "don't tell your other mom about my affair."

So, the senator is kind of the worse. She's no Ella Montgomery (Holly Marie Combs) or Ashley Marin (Laura Leighton), that's for damn sure.

With Caitlin laid up in the hospital, that left all the Scooby Doo-ing to Ava (Sofia Carson) and Dylan (Eli Brown). Dylan somehow saw Mason's (Noah Grey-Cabey) phone fall down a storm drain when Caitlin was run over, so they went back to try to find it and were instead chased by someone in a pig costume in the sewer. A sewer-dwelling pig person! Now that is some good, old-fashioned crazy PLL stuff.

Ava and Dylan think the pig-man was actually Dana Booker (Klea Scott) because she conveniently appeared moments after the pig-man disappeared, waving Mason's phone in their faces. But that doesn't feel right. With the revelation Mona (Janel Parrish) uncovered at the end of the episode, the smart money is on Nolan (Chris Mason) or Nolan's secret sibling being the pig-man. More on that later.

After their trip down the sewer, Ava and Dylan made it back to Ava's fashion show in the nick of time. The show itself was not really that interesting, but it did introduce a new suspect in the form of Zach (Garrett Wareing), a kid whose parents were swindled out of their life savings (including his college fund) by Ava's dad. Zach is understandably resentful of Ava and could definitely be out to get her, so he is another person of interest to keep an eye on.

The Perfectionists' Hayley Erin Reveals Just How Alike Taylor and Alison Are

Finally, it seems we can rule out Mason as a suspect, not that he ever really was one. But there was surveillance footage of him at a crew team party at the time of Nolan's death. Also, he apologized to Caitlin for being such a creep, though in doing so he revealed that Nolan only told Mason the secrets he had on other people. He did not tell Mason about the box of evidence stashed in the greenhouse, which means someone other than Mason stole it and that person is still out there holding on to a boatload of secrets.

After Taylor (Hayley Erin) ran off last week, Alison (Sasha Pieterse) and Mona were determined to find her and Mona urged Alison to get Taylor to go public (or at least reveal herself to her mom). While Alison had to help with the fashion show as the faculty advisor, Mona went off to snoop around Taylor's RV. She hit the jackpot when she found a secret compartment that has a Beacon Guard hub hidden inside. This BG hub tracks people and Mona noticed that the Hotchkiss family listed Peter (the dad, BH01), Claire (BH02), Taylor (BH03), Nolan (BH05) and some unnamed person labeled BH04. The way the family members were listed seems to imply that there is some unknown Hotchkiss child that falls between Taylor and Nolan.

Mona also got an alert while she was snooping that told her Nolan was in her apartment at that very moment. So that's my vote for the pig-man -- either Nolan is still alive and that was him in the sewer, or it's the unknown Hotchkiss kid.

Alison, meanwhile, managed to track Taylor down in the cemetery and convinced her she needs to tell her mom that she's actually alive. They later had a tearful reunion at Alison's house. It's a shame we didn't get to dig into that more, so hopefully, the show is saving that for next week. I want to know exactly how Taylor is going to explain her fake suicide to her mom -- and what her mom knows about everything.

Additional thoughts on this episode:

- It's highly unbelievable that Caitlin's hit-and-run would happen off campus and yet the local law enforcement would let the head of the university security take charge of the case. But that's another big PLL characteristic -- something hinky is going on between the town and the university, much like Rosewood seemed to be a town not quite of this world.

- This might be nothing, but have you noticed how most of the main characters on this show have dark hair... except for the Hotchkiss women, Alison, Zoe (Roxanne Stathos), and Zach? Is the unknown Hotchkiss Zoe? It's probably not Zach, but you never know. Food for thought.

- Alison: "How do I explain Taylor?"
Mona: "You found the dead girl whose brother was killed based off a rose you found in a cabin and a map of Oz, then you brought said dead girl back to Beacon Heights -- despite my warnings -- only to have her disappear again? That seems right."
Alison: "Yeah, well, when you say it like that..."

- Who all do we have running around as an unknown right now? Nolan's killer, the secret box thief, Mona's chess partner, the pigman, and the unnamed Hotchkiss family member? That's a lot of unknowns. How many actual people do you think that covers? They can't all be the same person, but is it just two people? Maybe the thief, the pigman, and the Hotchkiss family member are the same person and Nolan's killer and Mona's chess partner are the other person? Hmm.
