The New Pennyworth Trailer Reveals Batman's Butler Was Actually a Real Badass

Before he was playing surrogate dad to Batman, Alfred Pennyworth was a strapping young war vet trying to figure out what he wanted in life in post-WWII England. Epix's upcoming Batman prequel series, Pennyworth, is going to tackle that story, and the new full-length trailer has us very excited to see it.

Jack Bannon plays the eponymous butler who is working security at a night club, meeting ladies, and chasing down bad guys when he meets his future employer, Thomas Wayne (Batman's dad for those who don't know). It turns out "Alfie" is a real badass and we get to see his origin story this summer -- and find out why he ends up at Wayne Manor very single in his later years.

The series also stars Paloma Faith as the terrifying Bet Sykes and Emma Corrin as Alfie's girlfriend, Esmé, with Jason Flemyng stepping in as Lord Harwood.

Pennyworth premieres Sunday, July 28 at 9/8c on Epix. Check out the Season 1 key art below as well.
