After an investigation into the crash, a French prosecutor determined that speed was not a reason for the 45-year-old's fall. He believes Schumacher hit a rock hidden beneath the snow while traversing an area between two marked pistes, which catapulted him face-first onto another rock.

"The family also wishes to thank all the people who have sent Michael all the many good wishes," Kehm added. "We are sure it helped him. For the future we ask for understanding that his further rehabilitation will take place away from the public eye."
