Now that Laura Linney's The Big Ccharacter, Cathy, succumbed to cancer, the actress says she would be interested in reprising her first serialized TV character, Mary Ann Singleton, from the miniseries Tales of the City, More Tales of the City and Further Tales of the City.

"I would do it in a second if invited," says Linney, who was recently given the Women in Film's Crystal Award for Excellence in Film and has kept up with Mary Ann's visits to San Francisco's fictional Barbary Lane via author Armistead Maupin's subsequent novels. "We'll just have to see. I'm in touch all the time with Armistead and [producer] Alan Poul. I hope it happens. But first I need to take a little time off." A wise idea, considering that in the latest Tales novel, 2010's Mary Ann in Autumn, the character is diagnosed with...the big C.
