Angelina Jolie's next project has enlisted some Oscar-winning help. Joel and Ethan Coen will rewrite the script for an upcoming film about Olympian and World War II hero Lou Zamperini, The Hollywood Reporterreports.

Oscars fashion hits and misses

The project, based on Laura Hillenbrand's 2010 novel Unbroken, will chronicle the life of Air Force pilot Zamperini, a former track Olympian whose plane crashed in the Pacific in 1943. He survived at sea for 47 days before being imprisoned in a Japanese internment camp for two and a half years. After returning home, he went on to carry the Olympic torch years later at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, close to where he had been held prisoner during World War II.

Jolie will direct the film, which has been in the works for decades. William Nicholson and Richard LaGravanese have already both scripted versions of the project before Jolie signed on in December. While the Coen brothers are known for directing, writing and producing their own projects, including No Country for Old Menand Fargo, they sometimes take on outside projects. One of those rare occasions includes Michael Hoffman's Gambit, which will be released later this year.
