The movie, which stars Angelina Jolie as the "Mistress of All Evil" from the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale, follows the villain's transformation from an innocent young girl into the ruthless woman who cursed newborn Aurora (Elle Fanning). Sharlto Copley, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville also star.

Though Jolie's version of the Sleeping Beauty villain is no longer literally green with envy — piercing green eyes have replaced the animated witch's green skin — it's nice to see Maleficent's signature horns front and center.
Angelina Jolie will receive an honorary Academy Award for her humanitarian work, the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Thursday. In addition to Jolie, who won Best Supporting Actress for Girl, Interrupted in 2000, Angela Lansbury, Steve Martin and costume designer Piero Tosi will also receive honorary awards.
"The Governors Awards pay tribute to individuals who've made indelible contributions in their respective fields," Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs said in a statement. "We couldn't be more excited for this year's honorees and look forward to bringing their peers and colleagues together to celebrate their extraordinary achievements."
