Fool David Letterman once, shame on you. Fool David Letterman twice, still shame on you.

Fool David Letterman once, shame on you. Fool David Letterman twice, still shame on you.

During an appearance on The Late Show Monday night, Joaquin Phoenix told the host he had recently became engaged to his yoga instructor after demonstrating a so-called move called "harnessing the hog." "I think she's the one — I proposed to her and she said yes," Phoenix told Letterman.

Sons of Anarchy's craziest moments

But on Tuesday morning, Phoenix admitted to Good Morning America that the engagement was just a play to get people to like him. "I think like my life's so boring, and it seemed like something exciting to talk about, and I wanted the audience to like me," he said. "They really like people getting married."

This is not the first time Phoenix has messed with Letterman. In 2009, the actor did a bizarre, mostly silent appearance on Late Show in a stunt for his mockumentary I'm Still Here. Phoenix later apologized for the awkward interview,  but doesn't think there was anything wrong with making up his engagement.

"I did not play a prank on him — he knew that I was joking around," Phoenix said onLive! With Kelly and Michael Tuesday.  "Did I say that? I was in bed too, I was getting ready for this show. I have no idea what I said."

In fact, Phoenix said he has never even done yoga. Now that, my friends, is what you call acting.
