The Event's loss is the Bravermans' gain!

In the wake of the sci-fi drama's cancellation in May, star Jason Ritter will be returning to Parenthood this coming season, TVLine reports.

Ritter, 31, will reprise his role as Sarah's former love interest (and Amber's old English teacher!) Mark for multiple episodes. At the same time, NBC's Universal Media Studios (behind both Parenthood and The Event) has signed Ritter to a development deal to star in a new show from Parenthood's executive producer Jason Katims.

Parenthood Season 3: "Heartbreaking" baby drama ahead for the Bravermans

Few details are known on the project, except that it will be an hourlong drama in the same vein as Parenthood and Katims' Friday Night Lights, which wraps its five-season run on NBC next week.

Also returning to the Braverman mix this season is former FNL star Michael B. Jordan. Jordan, 24, has signed on to recur this coming season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The actor played Haddie's boyfriend (and cherry-popper!) Alex in several episodes last season.

"I love the show and working with NBC and there's not a reason for me not to come back," Jordan told THR. "I love working with Peter [Krause], Sarah and Monica [Potter]; it's like being in another family environment that's very similar to Friday Night Lights."

NBC reveals premiere dates for Parenthood, SVU and more

The third season of Parenthood starts on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 10/9c on NBC.

Are you excited for Ritter's new project? Or would you rather he stay in Berkeley with the Bravermans?
