Harry Morgan of M*A*S*H Dies at 96
Harry Morgan, best known for his role as Col. Potter in M*A*S*H, died Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles, The New York Times reports.

Morgan's performance in M*A*S*H, in which he co-starred from 1975 to '83, earned him an Emmy in 1980 as Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He reprised the character in a spin-off titled AfterMASH. Morgan also is fondly remembered for his portrayal of Bill Gannon, the partner of Jack Webb's Joe Friday in Dragnet from 1967 to 1970.

The Detroit-born actor's other TV credits included December Bride and the spin-off Pete and Gladys. According to the Times, he once estimated that he was seen in prime time for a span of 35 straight years.Morgan's film credits were similarly extensive, going all the way back to 1943's The Ox-Bow Incident and 1945's A Bell for Adano. He also starred in The Teahouse of the August Moon and Inherit the Wind among more than 100 movies."My dad would read a script the way somebody else would read Time magazine and put it down and be on the set the next day," said son Charles.He is survived by wife Barbara Bushman, three sons from a previous marriage -- Christopher, Charles, and Paul — and eight grandchildren. His first wife, Eileen Detchon, died in 1985; they were married 45 years.
