San Diego Comic-Con is usually a Mecca for fans of all shapes and sizes, from both mainstream and obscure nerd culture. Whether they're there for superheroes or zombies, fans expect panels, signings and activations from the most zeitgeist-y shows, but Game of ThronesandWestworld fans are about to be super disappointed, since HBO has just announced that neither show will have a presence at SDCC this year.

No, you didn't read that wrong. Two of the most buzz-worthy sci-fi/fantasy shows currently on television are officially sitting out this year's con.

HBO released the following statement today: "Due to production schedules and air dates for Game of Thrones and Westworld, these series will not be presented at San Diego Comic-Con this summer. HBO has a longstanding relationship with SDCC, and we are very grateful for the fans' enthusiastic response over the years. We look forward to returning in the future."

Shots from the Game of Thrones Set Just Revealed a MAJOR Season 8 Spoiler

Considering Game of Thrones won't return until 2019 and Westworld will have recently aired its Season 2 finale by the time SDCC rolls around, it sort of makes sense that neither show would have much to present yet. That doesn't make us feel any better about missing out on these fan exerperinecs though, and we imagine fans who already dropped a nice chunk of change on flights, hotels and badges to see these panels and activations are none too pleased either.

All those poor Daenerys and Jon Snow cosplayers will be all dressed up with nowhere to go!
