Game of Thrones Season 8 Premiere Delivered a Scene Fans Have Been Longing For

[Warning: The following contains spoilers for the Season 8 premiere episode of Game of Thrones.]

It's the beginning of the end, Game of Thrones fans! Season 8 is officially off to a huge start, and the premiere packed in just about everything we ever wanted from this show (including a kickass new title sequence).

First and most importantly, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) finally discovered that he's secretly Aegon Targaryen, Daenerys Targaryen's (Emilia Clarke) nephew. You'd think the first priority here would be puking his guts up at the realization that he's been banging his aunt, but no. Instead, Jon chose to focus on the promise he made Daenerys to bend the knee and support her claim to the Iron Throne and the Seven Kingdoms. Even though his own claim is actually stronger than hers, Jon decided to keep his word rather than seize the throne for himself, but it's hard to say how long that will last.

Sam made a pretty great point that, while Daenerys has shown great leadership skills in the past, the best test of who should hold power is to determine who would give it up if it was for the good of the realm. We've been following Daenerys' fight for the throne for so long now, it's hard to envision a scenario in which she would willingly step aside and let someone else rule, even if it would save Westeros. Even if her claim was proved to be second-best to Jon's.

Something tells us some major shake-ups are going to occur when Dany finds out who Jon really is.

Speaking of who he really is, the premiere finally gave us the one scene fans have been waiting ages for. Jon Snow officially rode a dragon, and if that didn't tell Daenerys everything she needed to know about this guy, we don't know what will. You also have to wonder if one of Dany's two remaining dragons might end up belonging to Jon when all is said and done...

This episode also gave us so many reunions and long-anticipated first meetings that it's hard to pick a favorite.

Jon and Arya's (Maisie Williams) cute reunion was probably the most rewarding for fans who've been watching since the show premiered. It's hard to believe, but these two haven't actually seen each other since the pilot, when he gave her Needle at Winterfell. That reunion alone was enough to make any Grinch's heart grow three sizes.

Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) also reunited with Sansa (Sophie Turner), his former wife (kind of), and they shared a good chuckle about Joffrey's death. It's nice to know that they can now joke about Sansa being forced to marry Tyrion and then bailing on him as he faced execution for regicide. Good times. While Tyrion has always been a master manipulator though, it was actually Sansa who picked out Cersei's (Lena Headey) fake alliance, and she wasn't shy about pointing out how stupid Tyrion was for falling for it. "I used to think you were the cleverest man alive," is now officially the sickest burn of all time.

Finally, we wrapped up with Jaime Lannister's (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) arrival at Winterfell, but if you were feeling those good vibes about him finally making an honorable decision and abandoning his evil path with Cersei, never fear. Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) was there to hilariously remind us all that this guy pushed him out a freaking window when he was 10 years old, crippling him for life. Whoops, this redemption arc still has a long way to go.
