Update 9/8/20: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot Bel-Air has officially been picked up to series. NBC's streaming service Peacock has given the drama a straight-to-series order for two seasons right off the bat.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's production company will team up with Universal television to spearhead the project. Smith broke the exciting news to Morgan Cooper (the creator of the fan trailer that started it all) and series co-writer Chris Collins in an adorable video, above.

"We have just officially closed the deal with Peacock with an unprecedented two-season order from a pitch," Smith said. "I've been in this business for thirty years and that does not happen. They ordered two full seasons of Bel-Air based on the quality of the pitch and the work that you guys have done. So I want to say congratulations. I am hyped."

8/11/20: When Morgan Cooper's short film -- a trailer for a fictional show called Bel-Air which reimagines The Fresh Prince of Bel-Airas a drama -- went viral on YouTube last year, he had no idea that his life was about to be turned upside down. Bel-Air caught none other than original Fresh Prince's eye, and now Will Smith and Cooper are shopping the dramatic reboot to various networks and streamers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peacock, Netflix, and HBO Max -- which is the current streaming home of the O.G. series -- are all making serious bids for the show. If the series gets a pilot or series order, Cooper will co-write, direct, and get a co-executive producer credit. Fresh Prince's original producers, including Smith and creators Andy and Susan Borowitz, are set to return for the reboot as well. Cooper's co-showrunner will be Chris Collins of Sons of Anarchy and The Wire fame.

Fresh Prince premiered in 1990 and ran for six seasons on NBC. The series, which follows the story of young West Philly native as he moves in with his auntie and uncle in Bel-Air, launched Will Smith to superstardom.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is currently streaming on HBO Max.
