Whistling in the Dark Reviews

Aspiring detective-story writer Truex, eloping with Merkel, wanders into the den of a baron of booze, where--to impress his bride--he regales the crime kingpin and his henchmen with the plot for a perfect murder. The nabob of the underworld decides to use Truex's scheme to safely eliminate a rival owner of speakeasies. Realizing what they have unwittingly wrought, Truex and Merkel labor mightily to prevent the proposed crime and to escape from its presumed perpetrators. Truex's first talking picture is a fine farce. Writer/director Nugent was, at the time of production, himself a leading man at the studio.
