Up in Smoke Reviews

The next-to-last Bowery Boys movie sees Hall sell his soul to the Devil, Foulger, so that he can replace the charity money he lost by winning big at the racetrack. When the mob learns that Hall has a special foresight into the names of the winning horses, they go after the hapless Bowery Boy in an effort to make him work for them. Hall refuses and winds up as the jockey of one of the winning horses. He tries to force the horse to slow down and lose, but the horse wins the race in spite of Hall's efforts. Luckily, since Hall illegally rode the horse, it is disqualified from the race. Since the Devil's prediction didn't come true, his pact with Hall is broken and Satan is forced to do penance by working in Elliott's diner. This entry in the series is pretty lame, even for the Bowery Boys, and the only reason this and the final entry in the series were made was that the studio decided to run out Huntz Hall's contract by making a pair of quickies rather than just pay him off to do nothing.
