Three Sailors and a Girl Reviews

A trio of sailors and a young singer (no lies from the title this time) join together with a struggling producer to bring a stage flop to Broadway where, of course, it becomes the hottest show in town. "The Butter And Egg Man," George S. Kaufman's play on which this bit of pure, unabashed escapism is based, served as the inspiration for four other films: THE BUTTER AND EGG MAN (1928), THE TENDERFOOT (1932), DANCE, CHARLIE, DANCE (1937), and AN ANGEL FROM TEXAS (1940). Look for TV talk show host Merv Griffin in the midst of all the singing and dancing. Songs by Sammy Fain and Sammy Cahn include "Home Is Where the Heart Is" (sung by Jane Powell, Gordon MacRae, Gene Nelson), "Kiss Me or I'll Scream," "Face to Face" (sung by Powell), "There Must Be a Reason," "When It's Love," "My Heart Is a Singing Heart" (sung by Powell, MacRae), "The Lately Song" (sung by Jack E. Leonard, Powell, MacRae, Nelson), "Show Me a Happy Woman And I'll Show You a Miserable Man," (sung by Leonard, Powell), "You're But Oh So Right," "I Got Butterflies," "The Five Senses," "I Made Myself a Promise."
