Lacking any clear direction, this melodrama just stumbles along for 95 of its 95 minutes as Kruger visits a Spanish town after suffering a nervous breakdown. He has an affair with Mercouri, the local nightclub owner, but their romance ends when she becomes attracted to Mason, the proverbial alcoholic writer who lacks inspiration. Kruger eventually returns to his hometown, while Mason stays on with Mercouri and picks up his pen again. Sources conflict on the credit for the role of Nadine.
