The Truth About Cats & Dogs Reviews

BRINGING UP BABY it's not. But hey, it isn't I LOVE TROUBLE, either. Abby (Janeane Garofalo) is an L.A. veterinarian with a funky radio call-in show (yes, it's called The Truth about Cats and Dogs). Brian (Ben Chaplin) is a tragically hip British photographer with a problem: He's supposed to grab some shots of a dog on roller skates, and the huge mutt won't cooperate. He and Abby click over the phone, but when he calls back for a date, she recruits willowy pea-brain Noelle (Uma Thurman) to stand in for her rather dumpy self. The ensuing romantic complications are right out of a 1930s screwball comedy, filled with mishaps, misconstructions and mischief of a kind too naive and sweetly silly to play in the cynical '90s. But Garofalo and Thurman breathe some eccentric life into the cliches, and charming Chaplin is a walking warning to Hugh Grant, almost adorable enough to warrant all the trouble.
