This three-hour documentary probes into the role of the CIA in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua from the time of the Eisenhower administration to the mid-1980s. Murder, torture, and kidnapping are used by government-sponsored death squads to intimidate the people. The Catholic Church becomes the most visible opponent, even when Archbishop Romero was brutally and publicly murdered because of his outspoken protests to the atrocities that plagued his native El Salvador. A former CIA operative is interviewed and speculates on the future of the region if Che Guevera had not been run out of Guatemala.
