Previously adapted as a TV miniseries in 1972, Neville Shute's bestselling novel +The Far Country was given another multipart go-round by Australian television in 1986. Michael York starred as Carl Zlinter, an expatriate Czech doctor living in Australia after WW2. Though denied the right to practice medicine in his adopted country, Zlinter was able to survive thanks to the love and support of his home-grown sweetheart Jennifer Morton (Sigrid Thornton). But a deep, dark secret in Carl's wartime past cast a pall over his newfound romance. Telecast in four 60-minute segments, The Far Country was produced by Carlton Television for Australia's Seven Network.
