When British intelligence operations in Vienna are compromised, secret agent Peppard suspects that fellow spy Michell is working for the Soviets. Globetrotting from London to Istanbul to Athens, Peppard endeavors to prove his hunch, and when intelligence higher-ups refuse to believe him, Peppard becomes a self-appointed executioner. Accompanied by Michell's wife, Collins, with whom he has been having an affair, Peppard has a suspenseful run-in with the Russians that adds a final twist to this unexceptional mystery directed by Sam Wanamaker.
