Kempton Burton, a 60-year old disgruntled London taxi driver, steals a Goya painting at the National Gallery in 1961. His unsuspecting wife Dorothy accidentally discovers the artwork hidden in their house. But as he is apprehended for the theft, a national uproar takes place as barrister Jeremy Hutchinson tries to prove his innocence and justify the deed as a heroic Robin Hood move.
