An unsuccessful but interesting venture into the western genre by melodrama king Douglas Sirk. Hudson is cast as the son of Cochise. With his father on his deathbed, Hudson promises that he will keep the tribe at peace. Hudson's brother, however, wants the tribe to unite with the warring Geronimo. Here, as he would do later in ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS (1955) and WRITTEN ON THE WIND (1956), Sirk casts Hudson as a character trapped between two factions of society, a favorite theme of the director's. This film was originally shown in 3-D, so try to excuse some of the gimmicky comin'-at-ya shots. It was also an early attempt at producing by former low-budget musical film star Hunter.
