Sword of Sherwood Forest Reviews

Yet another rendition of the Robin Hood legend, this one benefits from the Hammer studio's knack for creating atmosphere, from the performance of Greene, an old hand at playing the famous thief (he had portrayed him on the television series), and from the presence of a truly vicious villain in Peter Cushing. Greene goes undercover to infiltrate the group headed by Cushing and the evil earl, Pasco, discovering their plan to murder the Archbishop of Canterbury, Gwillim, and then go on to take over Bawtry Castle. But Greene organizes his band of men to rescue Gwillim and Branch, then continues to quell the insurrection by defeating Pasco's small army. Director Fisher was not too comfortable with the battle scenes but knew how to set the right mood and get appropriate caricatures out of his players.
