This documentary chronicles the making of the film Bethune: The Making Of A Hero starring Donald Sutherland. Bethune was a Canadian physician who was a medical advisor to Mao's troops and still considered a national hero in China. Filming in remote areas of China, the production encountered difficulties that exasperated director Phillip Borsos, who in turn blamed Filmline International of Montreal, Canada. The feature was 80% completed at the time the documentary was released, with more filming in Spain and Montreal certain to add to the 16 million dollars already spent on the project. Another problem on the set is the continuing feud between Sutherland and scriptwriter Ted Allan. The two are filmed individually, but their differences are apparent.
