Strange Bargain Reviews

When bookkeeper Sam Wilson (Lynn) requests a raise, he is not only turned down but learns from his boss, Malcolm Jarvis (Gaines), that the firm is about to declare bankruptcy. Further, Jarvis announces his intention to kill himself and tells Wilson that he can earn $10,000 if he helps make his (Jarvis') suicide look like a murder so that Jarvis' family can collect on an insurance policy. Wilson agrees, but the scheme backfires and he becomes the chief suspect in a murder that, unbeknownst to the bookkeeper, really is a murder. Producer Sid Rogell and director Will Price made the most of their low budget and ended up with an engrossing suspense film--a "strange bargain" production, so to speak. Available on a videocassette double bill with THE FALCON TAKES OVER (1942).
