Soul Soldier Reviews

DoQui plays a recruit in the all-black 10th US Cavalry regiment stationed in Texas shortly after the Civil War. The commander and only white man at the fort is Romero, who forces his men to perform various actions for the benefits of whites. Most notably, Romero orders his men to attack an Indian tribe whose chief, Dix, is a friend of one of the troopers, Johnson. Several members of the troop are killed in the attack, and the survivors begin to wonder why they have risked their lives for their white commander. Novice director Cardos does a good job with the action scenes. The film's success in re-release gave rise to THE LEGEND OF NIGGER CHARLEY in 1972.
