A diverse group of passengers on a seaplane crashes on a deserted island. They soon discover that they have just five hours to get off the island because it is the site for a nuclear bomb test. While there is plenty of action--gun fights, hurricanes, a battle with sharks, and a fire on the plane--the film focuses on character development. The hero lives in the British version; in the US version he dies. Attenborough shines above the rest of the cast, but all fit perfectly into their roles.
