Song of the Range Reviews

Reviewed By: Hans J. Wollstein

It is almost as if Jimmy Wakely is Dennis Moore's sidekick in Song of the Range and not vice versa, Wakely's vocal capabilities and star billing notwithstanding, which should come as no surprise. A wooden actor at best, Wakely badly needed the strapping Moore's presence -- not to mention the antics of the delightful Lee "Lasses" White -- but Monogram should have called a spade a spade and released the Western as a Dennis Moore vehicle. And as such, Song of the Range is a fast-paced, reasonably well-acted example of the genre, nothing to get excited about but pleasant nonetheless. If Song of the Range sounds suspiciously like the 1938 Three Mesquiteers oater Pals of the Range, it is no coincidence; both films were penned by the prolific Betty Burbridge.
