Song of the Eagle Reviews

The story is about beer, not animals, nor is it a musical, so the title is a complete misnomer. It focuses on the efforts of certain groups to gain complete control when liquor was made legal again after Prohibition. First we see the effects of liquor being illegal--the closing of bars, and the battles for the illegal liquor territory that followed. The story centers around a family and the brewery they run. The film shows how making beer legal almost wiped out first the father, then the son, because they wouldn't join forces with the racketeers. There is a minor flaw in the film--it shows the Jess Willard-Jack Dempsey fight from Toledo being broadcast on radio into a speakeasy, though the pair actually fought before the Prohibition era.
