Sarge Goes to College Reviews

The barren plot concerns a tough and not-very-bright marine sergeant (Hale) who is taking it easy before undergoing a serious operation by, of all things, going to college. This sets the stage for the Sarge to go through dramatics more typical of a high-school student. It's all just an excuse for a musical display anyway, which is integrated quite well into the meager story. Guitar great Les Paul is among the many performers. Songs include: "I'll Close My Eyes" (Buddy Kaye, Billy Reid); "Penthouse Serenade" (Will Jason, Val Burton); "Somebody Else Is Taking My Place" (Dick Howard, Bob Ellsworth, Russ Morgan); "Open the Door, Richard" (Dusty Fletcher, John Mason, Jack McVea, Don Howell, performed by Jack McVea and His Orchestra); "Two Are the Same as One;" and "Blues in B Flat." Other numbers include those by Henry Nemo, Sid Robin.
